What is the Consulate on Wheels?
The Consulate on Wheels is a program of the Consulate General of Mexico in Los Angeles, created to bring documentation services to Mexican nationals directly to their places of residence, taking into account the difficulties that many of them face in traveling to the consular headquarters.
No copies or photographs are required for Mexican passport and consular registration procedures. The Consulates on Wheels only issue passports, consular registration cards and voter’s credentials. Likewise, as of October 2022, birth registration services have resumed.
- All applications for birth registration, without exception, require an appointment.
- Appointments may be scheduled exclusively through the toll free number MiConsulado +1 (424) 309 0009 or through its website: (https://citas.sre.gob.mx/).
- When scheduling an appointment through MiConsulado, it is important to verify the selected office. Appointments scheduled for the birth registration process corresponding to appointments at Consulates on Wheels may NOT be attended at the Manhattan office and vice versa.
- Birth registration requests will NOT be received via e-mail.
How to schedule appointments at the Mexican Consulate
In order to streamline consular procedures, the Mexican government implemented the “Mi Consulado” system on March 1, 2022. This system optimizes the management of appointments, allowing a greater capacity of attention to users. To schedule an appointment at any Mexican consulate, interested parties can use several options: call the “Mi Consulado” phone number (424-309-0009), access the appointments page, or send a WhatsApp message to that same number.
It is important to note that consulates will not serve people without prior appointment, so it is essential to schedule the visit in advance. In addition, caution is advised against individuals offering appointment services in exchange for money, as these could be scams. The Consulate General of Mexico in Los Angeles warns against this type of fraudulent practices.
For a safe and efficient experience, it is advised to use the official channels provided by the Mexican government. These include the telephone number, the website and the “Mi Consulado” WhatsApp service. By following these steps, users can reliably schedule their appointments and avoid possible inconveniences.
