After defeating the No. 1 seeded Detroit Lions at Ford Field 45-31, the Washington Commanders are among the top four teams remaining in Super Bowl LIX contention for the first time in more than three decades and their next challenge will be against the Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field this Sunday, January 26th. A win against the Eagles would mean the team’s first in that stadium since 2022, when they handed them their first loss of the season on Monday Night Football. In addition, such a win would catapult them to the Super Bowl for the first time since 1991. The Washington Commanders remain the only visiting team to win a game in these NFL playoffs and they are looking to make history.
The 1990 season was the only other time Washington faced the Eagles in the postseason. That game was also played on the road for the team then known as the Redskins, who emerged victorious with a score of 20-6, advancing to the Divisional round. This precedent generates optimism among fans in what will be the third meeting between these two teams this season, with the Eagles taking the first game 26-18 in Week 11, and the Commanders winning 36-33 in Week 16.
